Determination of Parvovirus B19-IgM antibodies with ELISA in adults

Parvovirus B19 (PVB19) is known as the causative agent of erythema infectiosum which is often seen in the chidhood. It has also been reported to cause arthropathy in adults, transient aplastic crisis in the patients with chronic haemolytic anemia and chronic anemia in the patient with AIDS. This study was aimed to investigate whether PVB19 may have some role in the appearance of symptoms in adults. For this, a hundred patients which had no rheumatoid factor (RF) were used as material in this study and PVB19 IgM-ELISA (IBL-Hamburg, Germany) kits were used for analysis. Six percent (6 %) positivity for PVB19 IgM was determined. This result is thought to have some sort of importance in the patients with rheumatoid complains.

Romatoid Faktör’ü Negatif Olup Romatizmal Şikayetleri Olan Erişkin Yaş Grubunda Parvovirus B 19 Igm Antikorlarinin Elisa Yöntemiyle Araştırılması

Eritema infeksiyozum etkeni olarak bilinen Parvovirus B19 (PVB19), sıklıkla çocukluk yaş grubunda rastlanılmakta olup erişkin yaş grubundaki kişilerde artropati, kronik hemolitik anemili hastalarda geçici aplastik kriz, AIDS’li hastalarda ise kronik anemiye neden olabileceği belirtilmiştir(1). Bu çalışma, erişkin yaş grubunda görülen romatizmal şikayetlerin, bir viral ajan olan Parvovirus B19’a bağlı olarak oluşabileceğini kanıtlamak amacıyla ele alındı. Bu amaçla erişkin yaş grubunda romatoid faktör (RF)’ü negatif 100 hasta ele alınarak Parvovirus B19-IgM ELISA (IBL-Hamburg, Almanya) kitleri kullanıldı ve %6 oranında Parvovirus B19-IgM pozitifliği saptandı. Çalışmada saptanan %6’lık pozitiflik oranın, romatizmal şikayeti olan hastalar için önemli olabileceği düşünülmüştür.
