Evaluation of Mean Platelet Volume and Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio in Tympanoplasty Performed Patients

INTRODUCTION: To investigate the predictive role of mean platelet volume (MPV) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) values for surgical success in patients who has performed tympanoplasty for chronic otitis media.
METHODS: The pre-op haemograms of patients who had been performed type 1 tympanoplasty surgery between January 2014 and July 2017 were obtained. Patients divided in 2 groups as succesful surgery and unsuccesful surgery. Same number of non operated patients were added to study. MPV and NLR values were analyzed. The results were evaluated with statistic programme named as SPSS 23.0.
RESULTS: In this study, 978 patients have performed type 1 tympanoplasty. It was observed 27 patients had reperforation. Because of chronic diseases 7 patients did not include to study. Each group included 20 subjects. In each group there were 17 woman and 3 man subjects. There was no statistical significant difference of MPV (p=.564) and NLR (p=.511) values between succesful and unsuccesful surgery group. Also there was no significant difference of MPV (p=.715) and NLR (p=.862) values between succesful surgery patients and non-operated control group.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: In this retrospective study, it is thought that MPV and NLR values were not effective in predicting surgical success.

Timpanoplasti Yapılan Hastalarda Ortalama Platelet Hacmi ve Nötrofil-Lenfosit Oranlarının Değerlendirilmesi

GİRİŞ ve AMAÇ: Kronik otitis media nedeniyle opere edilen hastaların pre-op ortalama platelet hacmi (MPV) ve nötrofil*lenfosit oranı (NLR) değerlerinin cerrahi başarıyı tahmin etmedeki rolünü araştırmak
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Ocak 2014 ve Temmuz 2017 tarihleri arasında kolesteatomsuz kronik otitis media nedeniyle Tip 1 timpanoplasti yapılan hastaların pre-op hemogramları elde edildi. Hastalar cerrahisi başarılı olan ve olmayan olarak ayrıldı. Bu gruplara aynı sayıda ameliyat olmamış kontrol grubu eklendi. MPV ve NLR değerleri elde edildi. Elde edilen sonuçlar SPSS 23.0 istatistik programı ile değerlendirildi.
BULGULAR: Çalışma sürecindeki verilere göre 978 hastaya tip 1 timpanoplasti uygulandı. 27 hasta tekrar perforasyon oluştuğu gözlendi. Kronik hastalıklar nedeniyle 7 hasta çalışmaya dahil edilemedi. Her 3 grup 20 bireyden oluştu. Her grupta 17 bayan 3 erkek birey bulunmaktaydı. Başarılı ve başarısız cerrahi geçiren hastaların pre-op MPV (p=.564) ve NLR (p=.511) değerlerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmadı. Operasyon geçirmeyen ve operasyonu başarılı geçen gruplar arasında MPV (p=.715) ve NLR (p=.862) değerleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark yoktu.
TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: Yapılan bu retrospektif analizde MPV ve NLR değerlerinin cerrahi başarıyı tahmin etmede etkin olmadığı düşünüldü.
