The Effect of the Supplemental Magnesium on the Serum Lipids in the Rats Fed with Hypercholesterolemic Diet.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of magnesium the supplementation by the drinking water supplied to Wistar albino rats fed to the hypercholesterolemic diet on serum total cholesterol, total tryglycerides ,glucose, calcium and magnesium levels. Before and after the experiment, the bloods were taken from the tail veins of the animals. Male Wistar albino rats were divided into two groups: rats fed with hypercholesterolemic diet (60% cow and sheep brain freshly and 40% standart rat chop) no Mg in drinking water and rats fed with the same hypercholesterolemic diet with Mg supplementation in drinking water .After the 25 days, rats with Mg supplementation had lower ( p< 0.05) total cholesterol, triglycerides levels compared with the group did not take the Mg supplementation. It is concluded that Mg supplementation in the patients with hypercholesterolemia may be an effective hypocholesterolemic agent without any adverse effect except in the high sensitive persons or the serious kidney insufficiency.

Hiperkolesterolemik Diyet ile Beslenen Ratlarda Oral Magnezyum Verilmesinin Serum Lipid Profili Üzerine Etkisi

Bu çalışma, hiperkolesterolemik diyetle beslenen (%60 sığır ve koyun beyni + %40 normal standart yem ) Wistar albino ratlarda içme suları ile magnezyum (Mg) verilmesinin serum total kolesterol, total trigliserid, glukoz, kalsiyum (Ca) ve Mg seviyelerine etkisini incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirildi. Hayvanlardan kanlar deney öncesi ve sonrasında alınarak serumları ayrıldı. Ratlar, hiperkolesterolemik diyetle beslenip içme suları ile Mg alan grup ve yine aynı diyetle beslenip Mg almayan grup olarak ikiye ayrıldı. Deneme sonunda serumlar analiz edildiğinde, içme suları ile Mg alan grubun total kolesterol ve total trigliserid seviyelerinin diğer gruba kıyasla daha düşük olduğu gözlendi (p<0.05). Sonuç olarak, hiperkolesterolemik bireylerde ilave Mg verilmesinin, herhangi bir ciddi yan etki göstermeksizin – aşırı duyarlı ya da çok ciddi böbrek yetersizliği olanlar dışında – kolesterol seviyesini düşürmede etkili olabileceği düşünülebilir.
